Dreams of a Dolphin
The platter is Norway Maple, with the lip or rim of the platter turned very thin to allow hand piercing using an air powered 400,000 rpm drill (think dentist drill). There are 120 different sized air holes pierced as part of the design. The pierced dolphins are painted with acrylic paint. After sanding to 600 grit, the aniline dye is applied and then sanded again.
The finish is multiple coats of sprayed Lacquer that is hand buffed between coats. The entire piece is then buffed by hand with 4F pumice and a natural polished sheen is achieved by hand rubbing with rottenstone.
